New Mersey Estuary Wind Farm Project Blows Our Way

Chiltern Thrust Bore have won the contract from McNicholas to drill 150 metres out into the Mersey Estuary (negotiating 6 metres under the sea wall) for the new Burbo Offshore Wind Project.

Starting early in March we will be doing three shots of 450 pipe out to where the barges will then be laying the necessary cables.

Working against daily 10 hour tidal windows the pressure will be on to finish this Phase 1 work quickly and we'll then be back to work on Phase 2 (on dry land this time!) to lay multiduct installations all the way back to the substation - with all the usual road, rail and utility avoidance planning before we get there.

A full CCTV and recorded DVD record of all the welds and joins is planned to ensure optimum quality control before the job is finally handed over.

We'll keep the web site updated with progress reports and photos as the project develops.
