The Not-So-Puny Drains, The Fens

The population of Great Britain continues to grow and the amount of land available continues to shrink. May Gurney are working with Norfolk County Council on a series of programmes to reclaim more land from around the Fens and in this particular instance, from around the Middle Level of the Puny Drain near Kings Lynn.

Putting a 600mm Denlock Clay & 900 mm Concrete drain in anywhere is never easy especially when the formation to be drilled consisted of peat and water – under a main road already crammed with hidden utility pipes and cables is many times more hazardous.

It was impossible to open cut so the Guided Auger Boring had to ensure that all existing services were avoided by going under the lot of them with a deep pit before putting in a 22 metre shot using our BPU800 Guided Auger Boring Machine. The 3 week project was completed to schedule without any disturbance to the live traffic route above.
