63 Crossings On The M11
Another live motorway where an upgrade of both communications and lighting had to be implemented without disruption to traffic.
Utilising one of our D33X44 HDD rigs & FL6 Mud skid lorry, sixty three sets of 4 way, 125mmØ pipes at each chainage up to 70 metres had to be installed against tight deadlines and we had to lower HDD rig by 150 tonne Hiab Lorry into pits just big enough from off the hard shoulder, at night

Moving the rig about was a nightmare – luckily the installations went like a dream. There aren’t many multipull crossing jobs where you complete 100% of them but, with god on our side and a great amount of CTB skill and experience we made it happen.
Jobs don’t get much more difficult than this given the very tight terrain alongside a busy artery like the M11.

“Despite the disruptions caused by the nature of the site, we got the job done and we would certainly use Chiltern Thrustbore again. But they’re a funny bunch these Thrustbore people!” was Gary Kelly of Birse’s view.
