Widening The M25 (M4 to M3)

"The London Orbital's Hidden History."

When life gets a little archaeological, the simplest task can become more than interesting.

Apart from the 27 crossings that had to be completed through probably the most varied mix of soil types in the UK (clays, chalks, compacted as well as wet gravels – all within 10 miles of each other) Chiltern Thrust Bore picked up and completed several additional directional drilling tasks.

But just as the end was in sight - so was the River Thames and a patch of old, made up ground hiding what used to be the A30 along with old gas mains and everything else that went with the ancient society of pre war London suburbia.

So next time you’re driving past Junction 13 of the M25 or over the Wraysbury Roundabout you’ll know that Chiltern Thrust Bore had more than a little to do with making your journey happen and thoroughly justified the faith shown in them when appointed by Balfour Beatty Major Projects.
