The Braintree Bypass
490 metres along the A120 Braintree Bypass may not seem a long way to the passing motorist but it’s quite a challenge to a Directional Drilling company laying 4 x SDR11 – 180 cable ducts when
·The established hawthorn hedge can't be disturbed
·The ground turns out to be the most appalling, hard compacted, cobbled and hard reactive clay(despite pre contract surveys showing otherwise
·The whole job has to be done between 7 in the evening and 5 in the morning and there’s no access to spare and supplies or help when needed.
So it wasn’t too much of a surprise when this became one of those jobs that took almost twice as long as expected – but Morrison Utilities laid no blame whatsoever at Chiltern’s door and now, as they say, “the job’s a good ‘un”
