Air Products (Newport)

"Passed with flying colours.”

When complexity and seemingly impossible tasks are thrown at them, Chiltern Thrust Bore have never been known to “head for the trenches”.

And never was there a more complex proposition than the Air Products contract in S. Wales.

A 5 km, turnkey package involved taking a nitrogen pipeline across Newport from one steelworks via a chemical plant to another steelworks – with an additional 700m spur at the end to convert a replaced pipeline from Nitrogen to oxygen.

Over the 4 month contract every possible utility had to be missed, on public and private land and under roads as well all the way under a major chemical plant.

Working alongside Air Product’s Chief Project Manager Stuart Wilson, Chris Preston led the project for CTB

“This was one of the first jobs where we operated alongside the client in an almost full project management role – and it had to be one of the most complicated!” is Chris’s view. “But Air Products were pleased with the result, particularly after we subjected the finished work to the most rigorous 24 Hour Temperature and Pressure Compensated Drop Test and it passed with flying colours”.
